MIDDLESBROUGH have rejected a £10m bid from Porto for Hayden Hackney - and reiterated their stance that the midfielder is not for sale.
Porto made an initial approach for Hackney last week and have now returned with a formal bid, as reported by Sky.
But the offer was immediately rejected by Boro, whose valuation of the Teessider would be significantly higher. Not that Boro would have any interest whatsoever in cashing in on the 22-year-old.
It remains to be seen whether Porto will return with an improved bid before tonight's deadline but Boro's response would be unchanged.
Hackney is already fast approaching 100 appearances for his hometown club and has captained the side on several occasions this season.
Meanwhile, Boro have been linked with a move for Southampton's Adam Armstrong but it's understood the striker won't be heading for the Riverside.
Armstrong was an option explored by Boro but they're understood to have been priced out of any potential move by Southampton's loan demands. Saints' valuation of the 27-year-old meant a permanent move was never on the cards.
Boro are set to confirm the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of tonight's deadline. That will take Boro up to five loanees, the maximum number allowed in a matchday squad.
